This could be that it was my nature as a hearing person and I could just easily strike up conversation with someone. It is often easy to forget I am not that hearing person anymore and I do catch myself asking an open ended question sometimes when there is no way for someone to convey the long answer. Then I catch myself and usually apologize and try to think of a way to ask a yes or no question or at least with some kind of simple answer I can figure out or that the person can use pantomime.
There are many times I just have not brought paper with me because I did not have the intention of socializing or seeing anyone. Never fails that I run into a person who wants to talk to me! (I guess I look approachable. LOL) This often happens when I am out for a walk with my dogs on some trail. So I had to figure out some way to adapt. It does take lots of practice and ingenuity to iron it out. Keep at it! :o)Rebeccahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11258414765006397310noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10853043.post-65202157594221130502009-05-16T22:50:00.000-07:002009-05-16T22:50:00.000-07:00Wow O've been totally deaf for four years now yet ...Wow O've been totally deaf for four years now yet I never developed a method I would call strategy to talk with strangers. I usually talk with people I know, asking them yes or no questions. With strangers, that's a bit hard and I tend to ask them questions requiring long answers since I didn't know them and so needed to ask questions that lead to descriptive answers so I can get to know them afresh.

Will try to remember and ask yes or no questions next time!Yvonne Foonghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12908132837504150283noreply@blogger.com
